At this time I am only accepting previous clients or personal referrals.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and see a wide range of clients including adolescents and adults in individual appointments as well as couples and family therapy.
I tend to take a fairly direct approach and strive to assist my clients in realizing the things that are working well for them in their approach to their life and coming up with ways to improve the things that are not. Improving communication and helping to develop healthier boundaries and coping skills are a fundamental part of my approach.
I have been in private practice since June of 2008. I have a variety of clients including working with individuals, couples and families. I particularly enjoy working with teens, who often can find this phase of life to be a difficult.
I am Catholic, and faith is something that is a big part of my life. We can incorporate your faith and/ or prayer into the sessions as much or as little as you would like.
I have office hours Monday through Thursday including some evening hours.
My office will be happy to bill your insurance company. I am a provider for several insurance companies. If you have questions about if I am a provider for your insurance feel free to ask me or your insurance company. I am listed with some insurances as Elizabeth La Colla instead of Liz.
Experience-
I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, grief and loss, health issues and stress as well as with Dissociative Identity Disorder and appreciate the complexities and the support needed to help the client and family deal with the many facets of these and other diagnosis.
Before going into private practice, I was a hospice social worker. I worked with patients and families that were dealing with terminal situations and support through the dying process as well as after. I also spent a lot of time assisting with finding resources for patients and families.
Before returning to graduate school I worked three years as a social worker for Head Start. I also worked as the director of social services in a local nursing facility.
Education-
I have been a social worker since 1992, when I graduated from Washburn University with my bachelors in social work. I returned to Washburn in 1996 to pursue my masters in social work and graduated in 1998 with my MSW. I continued my education by completing two years of clinical supervision to be come a clinical social worker. I became a licensed social worker with each new level of education by taking the licensing exam necessary to be a licensed social worker in Kansas and have been a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) in Kansas since 2005.
